turbo, turbo, turbo
much time has past and my bike has been apart for over a year, but today it runs again, with many revisions and custom parts. I can not comment on how it works since it is cold out and there is much snow. it does sound wonderful, to hear it run after so long, it seems to have lost a lot of vibration...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
picture of intercooler partly installed, plumbing unfinished, pistons with material removed (lower compression), and lighter flywheel, will it be the answer? i have no idea, but will keep posting updates as they happen. the turbo on the v-twin works very well when the outside temp is arond 4 or 5 de...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
toyotaracer, are your cars gas or diesel? the engines we are using have many different challanges compared to a car engine, cam profiles rpm ranges being different, maybe the problem is the turbo is too small and there is not enough heat, volume and pressure being made to powr the turbo past the boo...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
you may want to think about another problem, what happens to the static compression ratio of 22:1 or 22.5 :1 when you add 9 or 10 pounds boost????? not many diesels run that high of a compression ratio when they have turbos http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/compression.htm you have to rethink the engine a...

the 406/418 cc are vented only to the intake with no external vent.
dieselfly, you got away lucky, i had to make an oil seperator for mine, i did get it to work, but i am pushing the unit alot harder and the more boost the more leakage.

Re: Punsun crank failure theory
these engines are very poorly timed, the 2 pumps can be altered individually, fighting forces from in correct timing could also cause failure

Re: Punsun crank failure theory
its true, no one ACTUALLY knows the number of failures, it sounds like the rumors and bad rap that the GM 6.2l and 6.5l engines got from failed cranks, the problem with those engines was cheap owners, not replacing the failed ballancer, and about 6 months or so after the ballancer fails the crank fa...

its a big heavy chunk s@@t spinning on the end, with a belt pulling not only back but causing a shifting side load as it shifts up and down , i have been beating the crap out of my punsun 836cc with turbo and havent broken it yet

Re: L100 TDC
this might help, but you also need to verify that the cam drive has not moved ,i.e. the key on the cam gear or crank gear have not shifted. the only other thing we have seen for a no start / hard start with a 406cc clone is a bent con rod, the piston was off and had too much leakage, but if you tort...

Re: Is 12amps output sufficient ?
the manual that came with my engine says it has a 15 amp charging system, they seem to print and say anything in the manuals, 12 amps might work for you, depending on how many lights you have on the bike, the main consumer is the headlight, everything else can be L.E.D. as long as you can maintain 1...

best of luck, im pulling my engine again, time for intercooler and a few other mods, i will take pix of the fuel stop i added, much better and easier to adjust, it works very well and it can be adjusted so there is no smoke at all, the turbo really makes the intake charge hot, so hot it starts to id...

Re: Punsun 20hp ..any good ?
yes its true, i have a turbo on a prototype 836, so far i havent broken it, and i run it fairly hard, the turbo does increase power, i could pull 140km without turbo on a good day, and no it will pull 160km per hour, and the bike is 520 pounds, big heavy thing, so cruising speeds of 130 or so are ni...

i have seen lots of failed bearing that look like that, there are a few things that will cause it, -was your engine new or used? - what condition are the rest of the parts in the engine like? - do you use a cvt? -too much thrust load on on a ball bearing not an angular contact bearing (cvt's cause e...

Re: Conversions from the 50s
i know this is a little off the topic of motorcycles, but it is very interesting and is in the right time frame, a diesel powered chainsaw 50cc that can produce 3hp, that works out to .06 hp per cc, so the 175 cc bike ening could produce 10.5 hp. yes the saw is a 2 cycle and who know the rpm range. ...

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
im not sure if yanmar has a 406 and 418, or if it is just the clones, i guess it depends who is manufacturing the clone as im sure there are several different factories in china making copies, the other change they may make is with or without ballanceshaft. these engines appear to look the same but ...

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
it looks as though the ebay injector is for a 186fa engine and not the 186f, the fa is 418 cc and the f is 406 cc.
i have a picture of both, these are both chinese clone injectors not yanmar. i hope this info will help out.
