Bullet Rear Wheel

Post by Stuart »

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a 35 or 36 tooth sprocket(wheel) onto a Bullets rear end :?:
If I found a suitable hub I'd get it wired into a Bullets 19" rim.

I think you are on the right lines with a new rear wheel. Am I right in saying the enfield sprocket is on the same side as the brake. I think most are on opposite sides which does not limit your minimum size as much. Of course you would have to work out the brake operation.

Hi Stuart,
As the standard 38 tooth rear sprocket is about as small as the enfield will allow would it not be better to perhaps change the crankshaft sprocket and chain for for a larger one and then purchasing the hitchcocks brake drum with changeable larger sprockets to gear back a tad if necessary.

Yes Sam, the cog and brake are on the same side, more's the pity. Maybe I should take a trip to an old bike museum with my camera  :D

If you want to stick to a 19" rear spoked wheel then your choises will be limited. The rear of my CB250/400 dream is 18" with drive on one side & drum brake on right. Have you thought about a disk on the back as this is probably as easy to fit as changeing over the mechanism from left to right.

Cheers John, yes I reckon I could go from 29T to 31T on the engine cog. Might be the only way I think. Or maybe fit a smaller clutch down the the 56T it has.
Sam, I've heard of the these bikes having disks fitted to the rear. I'm still wondering the right course of action. That lump may have to come out eventually. Even the it will may be hard to put a 19T on the Gearbox. The bike's engine has been turned into a unit construction job outside and then put in. Several key bolts cannot be undone because of the frame :?
All good fun :D

Hi Guy's

Yeah, changing the front primary or going a 20 on the final drive may be the only option. If you go putting a new wheel on the rear Stuart, you might find that it becomes an issue when you submit the bike for MOT inspections.

I'm only going on what could happen here in OZ "strictest buggers on Earth" ;)
