Been contemplating lately about side loads on the Crank and what longevity issues this might cause. So far it appears there are no roller bearings for handling sideloads (chain or belt to Ultima tranny, or CVT's for example). Most Kubota applications appear to me to be installed inline with the crank. But.... Im no application expert.
Well just found this today before heading off to work; A Kubota Application manual. A listing of various Kubota engines and what applications the company feels the engine works well for. This might shed some light on things. I've not poured thru it yet. Will be interesting to see how many of the applications; if any, are side load applications.

Well this manual certainly does not make it simple. It does NOT list things simple that the engine can be used for. It's a rather highly technical manual giving the reader specifications one can use to calculate forces to see if they comply with Kubota's designs (least I think that is the case, it is all a bit over my head)

If you are concerned about side loading , engineer an outboard bearing to support the free end of the shaft !

I suspect the fact that Kubota offers a stub shaft for this engine is confimation they have little concern over side loads.

There's some interesting stuff in there about exhaust design and turbo-charging, and also the effect of tilting the engine on its lubrication system.
The shaft load calculations (section 10) are reasonably straight forward for radial load, but they assume an ordinary V-belt drive so are not quite right if you're using a CVT or toothed belt. If you need a hand going through the numbers then message me & I'll try to help.
Figure 11-17 does highlight that you shouldn't rubber mount the engine if the gearbox / CVT output isn't mounted to the engine.
There's nothing in there about axial shaft loads (i.e. along the shaft) but a standard CVT shouldn't exert any particular force in that direction unless you're doing something weird.
