Adding sump plug

Post by alexanderfoti »

At the moment my sump drain bolt buts up against the gearbox. I change oil using a suction pump, but would like to be able to drain the crud out of the engine every now and then.

There appears to be a blank space on the other side of the engine that looks like it could accomodate a drain bolt.

as shown here:

Can I just drill and tap this, or is it something structural I shouldnt touch.

You should be OK as most engines have both sides drilled and tapt. Alternatally if you have enough room for a banjo bolt and a short length of pipe.

hmm, a banjo bolt and pipe sounds interesting, only problem is that it would have to be routed so that it doesnt get snagged etc

Thanks!

A lot of engines sited in dificult places use this method. Normally a short piece of hydralic hose with a blank in the end tied up vertically. Maybe a brake hose from a car or van might do with the right fittings.
