At the moment my sump drain bolt buts up against the gearbox. I change oil using a suction pump, but would like to be able to drain the crud out of the engine every now and then.
There appears to be a blank space on the other side of the engine that looks like it could accomodate a drain bolt.

Can I just drill and tap this, or is it something structural I shouldnt touch.
A lot of engines sited in dificult places use this method. Normally a short piece of hydralic hose with a blank in the end tied up vertically. Maybe a brake hose from a car or van might do with the right fittings.
