Hi all,
Getting near the end of my Daihatsu Dnepr build and successfully wired it up last week.I must admit it's been one of the most entertaining projects I have ever embarked on. Everything worked as planned except the fuel lift pump which failed to make the pumping noise when wired up. There are 2 wires going to the top part of it one red and another earth. Assuming a stuck solenoid I tapped banged & fiddled all to no avail. Assuming the pump to be US I then pried it apart only to find it's not an electric pump at all but the wire looks like a water sensor warning thingie. So I just F****D up a perfectly good primer pump. So near yet so far. I now assume the high pressure injector pump pumps the fuel from the tank and only a primer is needed for bleeding. I hope to be motoring in the next 2 weeks and look foreward to a summer of sidecar diesel biking. Will post some finished pics soon. If all goes well I might try to attend some rallys this year ie if paddys are wellcome.
Regards and thanks to all who gave assistance
F****D up

Re: F****D up
The list pump usually supplies fuel to the injector pump at 3-4psi and then the injector pump raises this to 3000 psi at the injectors.
You might get away without the lift pump if your tank level is above the injector pump.
Most diesels will have a hand primer on the lift pump to allow for priming the system should you run out of fuel.
Cheers
Dave

Thanks Dave,
Have ordered an electric pump off Ebay. I guess the one in the car was in the fuel tank. I can repair the original filter primer so it filters only and might save a few bob on another one.
John.
