1985 Honda Interceptor 500

Post by Kristof »

Hi,

Is it possible to fit a Punsun v twin or Lambordini 2 maybe 3 cylinder diesel into a 1985 Honda Interceptor 500?

I am just trying to get my head around trying to build a sport/touring bike, but I just need people that have actually done it to let me know what is involved in building something like that.

I definitely think that the frame will have to be modified, this Interceptor has a steel frame with a sub frame that is used to be able to put the motor in/out. Maybe I only need to modify the sub frame? What do you think?

I'm no expert on this but has seen others make wooden approximations from potential engines and offer them up to empty frames etc. That might be a good way to proceed? Others have mated gearboxes to engines outside the bike (on a steel plate) and then offered them up. But admittedly that guy had a lot of old bikes to choose from!
I would try for a more established make of engine as there might be more reliability in one of those? Yanmar V twin's are the units most copy. Good luck!

I know the the V twins won't fit they are much larger as are most diesels being used. That said being able to make a new lower frame to carry you choice of engine. I have a gs550 on the chopping block and we are doing a 6" stretch to fit a Punsun. This site has just about every combination you can think of. Keep looking and reading you will find a solution
