Has anyone got a weight figure for the Ford Endura D engine (1.8 idi diesel, non turbo, Lucas/CAV fuel pump)?
If you only have to weight with the gearbox attached, don't worry
On a similar note, working on a kerb weight of 1.2 tons (1200kg), anyone got a rough idea how much an early 90's Ford Escort van with the above engine would weigh if the van was cut in half just behind the seats (thats why I am working on the kerb weight, as there will be no load bed to allow for
I currently only have a bike license, so I can only ride a trike up to 410kgs. Thats why I was thinking of cutting it in half (and the back isnt the best :S)
Roughly trying to work out the weight I would say the back would weight between 400 and 600 kgs (at the most) which might sound alot, but the structural design to accomodate the weight is why I have reckoned on that weight. The problem is, that would put the rest of the vehicle (the bit I want as a reverse trike) at 600~800 kgs, which is alot more that I can ride on a bike license...
If its not a viable option, I will most likely use the engine to build a sand rail/beach buggy style vehicle...
Which would mean putting the engine/gearbox at the back of a frame and simply welding/bolting the steering bars to the main frame...
Any thoughts?
