New bloke from NE Scotland

Hi all , My names Richie , some of you may know me from another well known forum
Anyway , I've been interested in car engine bikes for a very long time and more recently diesel engines in bikes.
I'm currently building a diesel trike which will be a huge monster and have been at it on and off for a year now.
I also run a vw beetle trike which I'm sorry to have to report to you is petrol.
The link to your site here was posted on the Ratbike Zone (RBZ) and I followed that here to find a mind of info.
I live in the north east of Scotland and would like eventually to build a diesel bike with a car engine in.
Anyway that pretty much it for the mo

(I am in the same boat :S...I still havent got a diesel bike/trike :S )

As for the first pic (the one you have just bought), what engine is it?
and is it basically a fwd car engine/gearbox with locked steering?

Thinking about building something like that my self :S....

Forgot to add, I also like the VW trike...
It looks quite different to most trikes I see...

Yep the just bought trike is a metro 1 ltr job and it's auto
I have been reading some of your posts and reckon that that is the way to go , unless your really stuck on the idea of two wheels forward. But an auto is a much better option having ridden a trike for a while , and for getting the gearchange somewhere near the front and workable is hard graft.

I don't know what I'm doing about/for rear brakes yet because it hasn't got any and need to incorporate a hand brake....but it has to work on two wheels for the SVA and not just one for the MOT. So gonna look into getting some calipers that are for disc brakes and also have the handbrake attatchments.

I think the love of weird Mad Max styled vehicles is because everyone wants to be a Road Warrior

Its not that I am into weird vehicles, personally I dont like a lot of the really custom bikes...
its the same reason though for wanting a custom bike/car/etc...

its to stand out :S...

What engine's in the diesel trike?? Have been having sinful thoughts about a big 6-cylinder engined monster for myself too - one diesel trike isn't enough! Had thought of a few options, all from about the end of the 1990s/start of the 2000s - the BMW 2.5 TDS, the Audi 2.5 TDi or the Alfa/Fiat 2.4 JTD. Any of these are in/around the the 140 bhp mark. If any of them can be made to work, it'd be pretty awesome performance.

It's a Ford transit 2.4 lump. Well it was what I could get at a reasonable price.

Cool, there was a guy in BTW UK who'd built himself one with that engine - used to call himself dodge or dodger, dunno if he's still with them or not.

I'm wondering whether Kev & Sharon will make the rally this year on the Escort engined trike. Think they have a 1.8 lump. Gear shift is all reversed they said because of the setup

It's funny you should say that , it's what stops alot of people (me included) from triking any front wheel drive car , and is the reason there are so many beetle trikes out there , hence why I say auto is best IMHO.

Anything is possible

with thought out linkages, etc, you could make the gearchange on a FWD car trike the same when the engine is at the back...

hi well i came off the back of the g-box and ran a bar to a mini gear set up ... ok it ment the gears are side on

5 -- R
3 -- 4
1 -- 2
But i only have to use 2 and 4 .. and its a 2 sec change or less, cos they are so colse togather is dead easey
