Changing 3000 static timing for 3600 in Rug twins
I have noticed that there are more 3000rpm twins about than 3600.
So, as I intend building another bike with a Ruggerini twin, I was wondering if the static timing could be adjusted from 3000 to 3600 or replaced with 3600 timing.

Knowing what most engine firms are like, you probably can.
On one of the engines I have, to change it from 1500rpm to 3000rpm, all you need to do is change the camshaft (fuel pump is driven of it as well) and the governer weights...
basically it has slightly longer opening durations on the valves, and the fuel pump.
the governer weights need to be changed/lightened...
I would be suprised if the 3000rpm rug twins are actually any different to the 3600 :S

Re: Changing 3000 static timing for 3600 in Rug twins
I went through the entire parts book for the MD150/151/170/171/190/191 and I could not find a single different part between the MD1x0 and MD1x1 engines. Not a single part. So I don't know why ruggerini gave them a different number. Presumably all you would have to do is adjust the high idle stop on the throttle arm. I guess I should have bought that MOSA welder/generator with the MD190 for $450 when I had the chance.

I had the same idea of looking at the parts list, but I couldn't find any online
I have asked Lombardini (who bought out Ruggerini) about the difference between 3000 and 3600 engines, but I don't suppose they will get back to me.
It would be damn good if they say the only difference is that throttle stop, as I have four bikes waiting for engines.

Well, I have found a pdf file on the net for a few Rugerini twins, again parts are the same for:
RD210 & RD211, RD180 & RD181, RD200 & RD201.
So it looks like it's just down to the settings, and as an RD210-211 only have a throttle stop setting to play with I guess that's pretty much it.

Apparently the throttle stops are the only difference between the 3000 and 3600rpm engines. I'm happy
