Rebuilding Briggs/Dihatsu engines

Post by coachgeo »

have done lots of emailing back and forth lately with Briggs about blocks. I had heard numerous times the blocks were all the same or nearly so between the 3cyl gas and diesels but I wanted to know "for sure". Glad I checked.. cause it aint so. Even the Diesel and Turbo Diesel blocks are different.

Info Direct from Briggs:
The gas, diesel and turbo engines are all different castings. The engines have identical mounting points and overall package dimensions to make switching from gas to diesel easier for OEM's. But the internals are different.

Internal passages are different for the turbo engines from the naturally aspirated as well. The turbo requires oil and coolant passages that are cast into the block of those engines.
