Punsun Up Grades

Post by DieselFly »

We received our three 816cc 20hp Punsuns direct from China. Frank Yue (F Yue  ) Had said they upgraded the starters. Our engines now sport a geared stater and also have a electric fuel solenoid mounted right on top of the pump body. I rather a manual shut down just in case the power goes away or the coil in the valve fails. We will oil them up and run them next week and I will report back.

How did you massage them into sending you only 3? I have tried forever persuading Winsun into sending me 2 and they would not discuss less than 20. Moreover, I would have to figure out shipping anything less than a container(!) myself from a seaport in China...

I just emailed Frank Yue (frank715@gmail.com) and requested three. He said they have given up alot of sales by not doing small orders. The engines were $847usd. each and about $500usd total for shipping. It took seven weeks to get them to us in Canada from the time we ordered. All said and done Frank was very helpful but they did ship three weeks late but they got here and we got one free oil filter and one free air filter for the wait.

I mainly switched to Enfield because these babies were out of reach. Otherwise I would have preferred shaft drive :)

Oh well, maybe next time.

Surely the fuel shut off solenoids will be "normally closed" types, in which case they will shut automatically if the power fails or the coil fails?

The fuel solenoids are indeed normally closed this is the problem . No Power no run the good thing about these diesel is if you can boost it you can ride it home with no power the solenoid will stop you though. Plus it is something you cannot replace without getting a spare from china which I think I will add to the spares list.

I had a Citroen on which the fuel shut off valve failed. It was a simple matter to unscrew the valve top and remove the plunger. Of course you then had to stop the motor manually by pressing a lever.

You should be able to order these from Frank Yue as they fit between the fuel line and the top of the pump housing. I like the idea of having the kill switch work I just hope it is reliable. I'll snap a pic after we yank the tank off. We are going to fire up the first one tomorrow
