Can anyone identify this V twin diesel.

Post by Mouse »

Trying to find some info on size, weight, power, specification sheet etc...
I impulsively bought it of ebay the other day but cant get it for about a week and the bloke selling it is not very helpful with details.
Apparently it came off a 12kw generator but thats about all I know at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestions but I cant find any thing similar looking by kabota or Yanmar.

As you asked I got it for £150 but its 150 miles away

I've had a good look around on the internet and cant find anything that is remotely similar except for this French Bernard thingy and even this is significantly different to identify it as definitely not the one. The general engine layout and style is similar but the inlet port and injector positioning are on different sides of the cylinder head. I suppose it could be coincidence or even a later model to the on in the spec spec sheet I found.

I'm beginning to think I've found an odd one. :( Now I'm looking a bit closer It's not terribly modern and I suspect its all cast iron as well which will make it significantly heavier than an aluminium one. :(

I suppose I'd better give the man his money and pick it up later next week :? One thing is definite and that its not going to go on my super miniature motorbike trailer for the trip home.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised, that starter motor looks a reasonably new design, and I see quite a few alloy parts there.

If you decide you don't want it I may well be interested in it for my next project. :D
150 miles away, where is it? Down in Devon? :D :D :D

The valve covers and cooling fan look much like the larger deutz engines. I've never seen a vee deutz that small, but you guys in Europe have much neater engines than we have here:-)

In Europe we have the VW Touran. In the US there's the VW Routan. I guess that says it all :(

Picked it up yesterday with the sidecar.

Its a Motorenwerk Cunewalde 2VD 8/8 - 2SVL which roughly translates into....
Its German which makes it very difficult for me to find info etc.
It was made in 1974
It is a V Twin
It is air cooled
800cc
3000rpm
Rated at 11.1kw or 15PS
It has a 80 by 80 mm bore stroke ratio which will probably mean more to some of you lot than to me (good/bad?).
It has a dynamo / alternator of unknown voltage and power, I'm guessing 12V and enough.
It has had two (second stage?) modification, 2SVL
It has a fan forced air cooling and ducting
It appears to have ally heads and crank housings with cast iron cylinders.
It weigh 124kg but unknown if this includes auxiliaries like alternator, fan, fuel tank etc

It wouldn't start without the glow plugs connected but fired right up with a squirt or two of easy start it revved and ticked over with no problems. From what I could see / hear there were no nasty sounds or other serious problems, but I could be wrong.
We ran it for about two mins and there was some white smoke similar to when it was cranking and not starting which didnt clear when running and I hope is not serious .

It was used to power the Multicar M 22 but mine was apparently connected to a generator.

Oh yea, the BMW engine had epic failure on the way home when one of the rocker arms snapped in half and left me stranded on the F1 starting line that is the exit of the Severn Bridge toll booths. Getting to the hard shoulder was like playing Frogger with a ball and chain on your foot!

Sounds ok if you can get the spare parts, try Dieselpower.co.uk to find out what the score is.
Looking at that car it seems a bit East German, let’s hope the makers are still up and running.
80x80 is ok, a long stroke is a slow rever and a short stoke is more of a high rever (race).
800cc & 3000rpm what would that be about 18-19 horse power, I guess you could raise the rpm 500 to make it a bit more usable. If it has glow plugs it probably means that it has low compression just the thing for fitting a turbocharger, should make a real cool bike.

Sorry to hear about ya beamer.

Found out why the starter did'nt engage properly. The solenoid was not not connected to the lever that engages the bendix gear.
