Hi there! I'm new to the dieselbike phenomenon. I've read a few articles on diesel motorcycles some time ago, and just love the DIY mentality of the diesel community. Then when I came across this video on YouTube, I just knew this would be the sort of setup for me - a Moto Guzzi with a Chinese-made air cooled V-Twin. (by the way, is the owner of that bike a member on this forum??)

For the moment, I'll be doing a lot of reading - it'll be winter before I can get started on a project anyway. That should give me some time to see how other people have gone about modifying their machines. I'm hoping to gather a ton of information first so the build would (hopefully) be that much smoother..

Welcome to the forum, yeah a Moto Guzzi with a diesel V-twin would make a really nice build .

Nanko shoved a peugeot diesel into a guzzi. Maybe that's an option for you as well. What Vtwin are you looking at?

I love Nanko's bike! It seems to be about as practical a diesel motorcycle could be (on a modest budget at least). It has a reliable engine, decent top speed, superb fuel economy, etc. Definitely a great inspiration. I actually tried to contact him on YouTube some time ago. I would really like to know how he managed to get it road registered in the Netherlands! I always thought it was nigh impossible, unless perhaps if you fabricated the frame yourself.. Until I saw his project, I more or less assumed I would have to register the bike in the UK first before 'importing' it back home..

For my own project I was thinking more along the lines of using a Punsun/Winsun V-Twin engine, and mounting it exactly the same way as the original Moto Guzzi engine. I would much prefer this in terms of aesthetics, but I'm a bit on the fence on engine choice, as I've heard some rather unsettling stories about build quality of these Chinese engines.

Another major issue would be proper gearing. You've got much more options using a higher-revving car engine, or by using a bike with chain-drive.. this bike would have neither, and I'm not looking forward to a 35mph top speed.. unless I can get the gear ratios worked out, I'd have to reconsider my choice of engine or donor bike I'm afraid. Anyone got a clue how to get taller gearing on a Moto Guzzi V65?

You tube does'nt like me , I tried to create an account but somehow
it did not work.

I have registered it as a home made bike , it had to pass a test like
our APK ( MOT ) with additionally a sound emission test.
PM when you need more details

The moto guzzi V65 you mentioned has as far as I know no different
ratio's for the final drive , but changing the 5 th gear seems to be easy
The bigger tonti frame models have three different rear bevel drives , the
one with the smallest ratio ( 9:34)gives you 3100rpm at 120 km/h
There is even a 11/32 ratio , but the swinging arm needs modification.
