Injector pop-off tester from bottle jack

Post by Crazymanneil »

Anyone ever built one of these -

Looks kinda useful. For CDI injectors I'd also need a way to trigger them I guess though I am sure a circuit could be thought up.

Been wanting to build one years ago using a new military surplus hand pump, but never had the time to figure it all out. Looks like that part is now done for me! Thanks for the link!

Injector cleaner could be run through for testing and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

You could use a hydraulic accumulator pumped up to pressure with a hand pump for your common rail injectors, and a simple pulser (preferably with variable pulse width) to fire your injectors. I'll bet that something can be found on the web for that, as I'd guess that the modern diesel injectors are fired the same way as a multiport gas engine, maybe just a shorter pulse width.

Good luck

No worries for the link.

If anyone does build one of these then beware of the high injection pressures. I believe that if its sprayed onto skin the fuel will penetrate and cause blood poisoning/nectrotic tissue. In this case the remedy is ampuataion! Theres info out there on the net. At your own risk etc.

CR injector triggering is a bit trickier than petrol from research. They are initially saturated with a high voltage and then dropped down to 12v. Having said that these things are necessary for the application in an engine and I reckon you'd probably get away with less strict drive voltages for just testing.

Either way, I reckon one of these testers would be handy for the car. Currently running on veg oil so would be good to see if the injectors clog up!
