Harley/Ultima Gearboxes

Post by Crazymanneil »

A few queries for you guys using harley/ultima gearboxes out there.

Now that I'm a bit stuck waiting on stuff to get the engine running I am turning my attention to the gearbox. I'm going to get a hydraulic cover for it to convert the clutch to hydraulic operated. Seems the easiest way to route the cable past the engine to the box and make it smooth in operation.

My chain primary did not come with the clutch pushrod. Where would I get one of these in UK? I've tried ebay without much success unless I am searching for the wrong thing. Also would I be better off just making one or something?? Is it just a simple rod or are there bearings etc involve also?

Gearbox output sprocket. I've searched for these too and found a couple. With my setup I will be wanting one with as little offset as possible to keep the engine/gearbox as close to the left as possible (LHD transmission). There seems to be little info on these however as to what pitch etc they are - anyone have info? Ideally I'd be looking for something with a pitch as common as possible to couple to a standard size chain and sprocket off a european/jap bike (not sure what frame will be off yet).

Cheers,

Neil

hi neil, im using the trikshift i think they are very similar, the pushrod im not sure if it special, i could measure it for you, the output sprockets are available in 0 offset all the way to over 1" , you will be looking for a sprocket from a dyna, and you need the nut as well, the chain pitch is 530, same as the standard on most other street bikes, best of luck

Thanks for that brilliant info has got me started looking now. From my calculations I think I need a 19 tooth zero offset sprocket if possible so time to start looking. I suppose I can go for a 24 tooth standard one though that would mean my rear sprocket would need to be pretty large!

Nice to see its 530 too, should be possible to couple up to most things. Guess I have been lucky with this setup so far...

push rod

Post by thundercougarfalconbird »

hi neil, the push rond in my transmission is 5/16 diameter and 10 7/8" long, i dont know is this rod length changes with different clutch setups, i will be using the hydraulic clutch and a 3" primary belt system.
as for sprockets i ended up with a 23 tooth .200" offset, it was on the local harley dealer discount table

I think you might be right that the rod would be different length but will check up on this, thanks for measuring. 8) Will check up with my local harley dealer for a sprocket too.
