The Long Way Round

Post by Anorak_ian »

I've just been to www.longwayround.com , to take a look at what Charley Boorman has been up to with his "Race to Dakar" dvd, I don't have sky tv so I'll get the dvd off ebay, bound to be cheaper than the official sites £15.99.
Anyhow while I was there I noticed that they are making a new series called "The Long way down".
Bloody typical, I was planning to do that journey myself when my bikes on the road  Jump over to Russia, drop down through Mongolia, China, Thailand, Singapore, Timor and Australia. :)

Two blokes, two diesel bikes, where would you go :?:

I got the Race to Dakar for Christmas. I'm about halfway through and it's pretty entertaining if you're a biker!
Didn't realise the Car's all have a special transmitter which warns the bikes when they are approaching. Didn't stop a few cars bumping bikes though
Even though the start and finish of each episode is repeated I still think that for £16, it ( a 2 dvd set) was worth the money. Good stuff :D

Where would I Diesel Bike Tour

Post by Diesel Dave »

I have small ambitions....

I'd love to do a coastal circuit of the UK, and a Trafalgar (Square in London) to Trafalgar (where Napoleon got defeated).

I'm seriously contemplating a Lands End to John O'Groats run in March or April.

I would like to do sommat in the States one day.... it would mean shipping my bike over beforehand.

Small dreams see........

Wow! Thanks for posting about this. I had no idea that there was more coming. I loved the "Long Way Around" DVDs. I haven't read the book yet. I'll have to keep an eye out for that on Ebay.

I'm thinking a RTW much like your route, but continuing up through South America and coming home that way. Still gotta build the bike tho! :)

Hi Guy's

Hay! The ABC here in OZ has just finished the last episode of Race to Dakar - and no I won't spoil it for you, but will say Dakar is in the last episode

It was interesting to see what goes on at the participant’s side of the race instead of seeing the highlights of the Dakar Rally.

Seems like they don't treat participants all that well when they get stuck out in the desert "the DVD will explain all".

This is also the year Andy Caldecott was unfortunately killed at Dakar. Raced Enduro myself - but don't think I'd worry about Dakar :)

Hopefully I'll get to see Charleys long way round.

Cheers

Andrew
