First post here..
Id like to build myself a diesel motorcycle. How hard is it to/whats involved in fitting a new motor? Id like to go with a larger motor but I spose whatever diesel I could get my hands on would do. Give me some common makes/models that will fit nicely and are common. Anyone got one for sale in the states?
Also, I would like a royal enfield as the conversion bike. Anyone know of any in the states?
Id also consider buying an already built one if someone has one and they wanna build another one or something.
How does the kick starter mechanism work? You put it in gear, let go of the clutch, and kick?
Also, Im not opposed to using clone motors. I am also not opposed to other brands, such as a beemer or something that LOOKS like an enfield or a bmw.
EDIT:
Does this sound like a good deal, I have NO experience with motorcycles, or buying them. Theres a 2000 royal enfield bullet a hour or two from my house..they want $2400 (1300 pounds to all you brits). It has 5200 miles, looks decent, hasnt been laid down. I assume the new ones are very much like the old ones?
need some advice/insight on a new bike build.

That Enfield sounds ok. Maybe could knock some off the price and try to get it nearer $2100? But it doesn't sound like an unreasonable price. I guess imports are a little dearer any Stateside?
You could then go the route of buying the parts to help you convert from Dragon on this forum. He came to the last Brit Rally and helped a few ppl with parts. Or Henry Price could help you out as he has done others.
Hope that's of some help.

Alright, any contact info? What "parts" exactly are involved in a conversion? Motor mounts I guess? Can I still use the stock kick start and tranny/clutch? Thats the way Id like to do it.
Another question for the experienced...how many horsies will it take to get a not slow, but not fast bike? I found a few 6 horse and 12 horse diesels last night. How many does that ruggerini have?

one bike i did custom is up for sale. the client has run into financial trouble and is liquidating. its a twin tank biodiesel/ straight vegetable oil burner, auto box.
i like the 22 hp vtwin by punsun/ winsun, whatever they want to call it. another choice for me would be the kipor, i just cant seem to source it stateside....YET.
i like the vtwin for the packaging- smallish, looks good in a bike, powerful enough. fits in frames with no frame mods in some cases.
you may want to source your engine first. decide what you're wanting to do for speed, torque and size and go from there.
