Where to get a fancy bolt?

Post by Crazymanneil »

Hey all,

Project Smart CDI / Harley box bike is moving along. I've run into a little snafu with bolts though which you may be able to give me a pointer on.

The flywheel bolts to the crankshaft with six M10 x 1mm pitch x 30mm bolts (odd i know). The heads of these bolts are 12 point star shaped (same as a 12 point socket or spanner) and they are 10.9 grade. They were on with quite a lot of torque so obviously important to hold the flywheel/clutch from sliding on the crank by friction. Other than the grade, the head is stamped KX2 - any ideas who the manufactuer this relates to is?

Thing is I want to replace these for 30mm long bolts to sandwich in my shiney new output shaft. I have no idea where to get these bolts from though. I've tried a few local specialist screw places and the internet and best I can find is 8.8 grade. These might be ok, although I'd be happier with the 10.9 grade so I can get the grip on them.

Any ideas? At the moment I'll probably try the 8.8 grade ones and hope for the best.

What you are looking for is an industrial fastener supplier (as opposed to your corner hardware store). I did a search of Northern Ireland yellow pages and turned up a bunch of businesses dealing in "fixings and fastenings".

Click on the following url to get the list:

I'm sure you will find at least one supplier from the list.

Thanks for that.

I tried several specialist fastener suppliers here such as TR fastenings, Swift screw (snigger) and direct fixings all to no avail. I may be onto something via ebay now hopefully.
