new build yanmar

Hi all. thought I'd build a diesel bike with stuff I had lying about. I have a small supercharger which I may add after it is running. you can see the supercharger in the photo.

I still need to add belt tensioners, lower frame link, etc etc. let me know what you think.

Excellent project. And I would fully support a trial of that little Aisin. Any guess at to how many pounds the Yanmar can tolerate?

It would appear that you bolted your pulley directly to the stator on the bottom end and then plated over the barrel base. How did you deal with the crank? Did you use the existing crankshaft and balance it or turn a straight shaft? Clearly we need more information, and thanks for posting.

Yet another question. The absence of a starter would suggest you may plan to use the existing kick starter from the auxillary bottom end. Is that in fact your intent? And have you tried to kick start it yet by that means?

pietenpol2002, The stator has been removed completely, and the conrod removed and rebalanced which was easy because it's a two stroke engine.

Oil has been added to crankcase for bearing lubrication. The bike will be bumpstart, but will kik start when warm

Great to see another build taking place. With 20:1 compression add a small amount of boost if you have a way to control it.

Word is they will handle a small amount, the university of Adelaide's biobike was going to use supercharging with there legit Yanmar L100. A quick net search should find them. I think Stuart still has them on his dieselbike.com website.

Got the bike going today and took her for a ride. Huge amounts of low end torque, like a two wheeled tractor!! I'll now disasemble it, gusset the frame then paint it and back together.

I'm not using the supercharger as I want it for another project. No significant advantage in using it anyway as the cylinder pressure is already very high and the pumping loss in the engine is low with current cam timing and lack of throttle plate.

Total cost will be less than A$700 when finished, and will make a good conversation piece in my collection.
