I've never seen this, so I thought I would ask-
Has anyone ever cut up a motorcycle engine in a way you could utilize the transmission? Size would probably be an issue but just wondering if this may be an option on occasion.

small motorcycle transmission
hi mark, this is boxerotto. if you look at my build , i indeed intended to use an old motorcycle tranny so i could utilize the wet clutch and five speeds, however some modificaton is nessesary. i would remove the crankshaft because it would no longer be a balanced unit with no rod and piston and replace it with a simply machined strait shaft and install another outboard bearing on the mag side where my input would drive. for my ratios to work i would have to double the engines 3600 rpm to the crank of the tranny using timing belt pulleys and a shorter cog belt.my doner tranny is from a 1982 kawasaki KDX 175 enduro bike. i may look at a 80 cc dirtbike tranny also because most have six speeds and is more compact. i don't know if it would be robust enough. the KDX tranny has good sized gears and bearings.also some modification to the cranshaft case area may be needed to allow tranny oil to flow to the former crank bearings. thats my thouhts on this any way, and don't know if anyones actullaly has one up and running.
