Hi all
My starter mounting plate has suffered a failure and has cracked at the thinnest part either side of the starter motor.
I have attempted to make a thicker one out of aluminum (As the old one is) but the clearance between the engine and flywheel is very slim. My D850 has a Z482 flywheel on it, so I must use a z482 mount.
I have found a breakers selling a z482 mount. The bolt holes look similar to the D850 pattern, but I cannot be sure.
Can anybody confirm whether the 482 mount will bolt up to the D series engine.

If you have access to the different engine parts lists it may be that what you require has the same part number and if so it must be the same part. It would seem odd to make ancillaries that are not interchangeable.

It does seem the starter applies considerable torque to that cantilevered piece of thin steel. But Kubota engineers apparently ran the numbers and were satisfied. Aluminum may be quite another matter. Below is the plate from a D750/850/950 servies as compared to the 482. It does appear the 482 starter hole is spaced closer to the block mount bolts than on the 50 services, as required for the smaller diameter 482 flywheel. But, the bolt holes spacing for the block appear different.
My argument would be to bang out a custom one from steel. You've got the pattern on hand. Or if from aluminum, support the starter at the reat to reduce flexing.

Re: Z482 and Dxxx Starter mounting plate
Yes they do look similar, but as you say the bolt pattern is slightly different.
I wonder if the Z482 can have its holes modified to fit as that would be the easier option.
I have made a replacement with thicker aluminium but the thicker aluminium puts the bolts too close to the flywheel, so I would need to find a different bolt type that gives enough clearance. .
The other end of the starter motor is very close to the exhaust manifold so i'm not sure there is enough space to mount a support there. I will take a look though, as if there is a threaded hole nearby, that should work.

sink the bolt heads by spot facing the holes (make sure you leave room for the socket or use allen heads) !

Re: Z482 and Dxxx Starter mounting plate
Thanks All
I have made a replacement from Ali, and will be doing as pietenpol2002 says and mounting additional starter support on the other end of the starter.
Hopefully that should be enough
