Glow plug relay wiring

Hi all

Im trying to wire up a glow plug relay from a 406 HDI to work on my kubota 850.

Looking at this diagram from a chinese supplier, it seemed like it should be straight forward:



Pin 1 to ground, pin 3 to sw12v+ pin 4 to starter motor and pin 5 to dash light. 2 large posts on the right to 12v and Glow plugs.

It arrived and that doesnt work.

Looking up the haynes manual for a 406 HDI, this is the wiring for the relay:



The glow plug relay is top left.

Pin 1 is ground, Pin 3 is sw 12v

Pin 4 and 5 go to the ECU. Applying 12v to these does nothing. The only thing I can get it to do is latch the relay permanently.

Any ideas?

Use one from a Mercedes. Its compact, weatherproof and only needs 3 wires apart from the glowplug.

Which one?

Also, mercedes have the glow plugs wired one by one, not all in parallel like the Kubota.

This controler is designed for pre and postheating, glowplugs are energised till cooling liquid reaches 60 C. (Pin 2)
Also the HDI Plugs are quick(er) heating.
The older psa controlers are ok, < 1994 engine XUD7/9 the other types are also postheating.
But maybe not connecting pin2 makes the HDI unit think engine is hot, never tested that.
Also you have to start (apply voltage on pin4) before the complete heating cyclus starts.

That's not a problem. .Post heating would probably help on mine.

Pin 2 on the connector is present, but isn't wired internally, or on the connector that was chopped off.

I have 2, thinking the first one was faulty. I must be missing something.

Did you ever get the Peugeot relay working?
I am struggling with the same part right now and cant get it to operate ok.

I did not. I ended up using a generic 12v timer on ebay and a beefy relay.
