Hello there. I am selling my 2005 Royal Enfield Bullet which has been converted to a diesel. This is not a project bike, it is complete. The diesel engine that is mounted on the bike is a 406cc Chinese clone of a Yanmar L100 which was purchased new for the conversion. The bike itself has 3,240 original miles on it, however, the current drive train has only about 25 miles on it. I bought the bike with the intention of doing a diesel conversion. At the time it had a 5 speed left side shift tranny. I soon found out that most of the conversion parts available (most of which I purchased from PricePart Motorcycles, a British company which specializes in Royal Enfields) to match the diesel engine to the Royal Enfield transmission worked only with 4 speed right side shift transmissions. So I purchased a brand new 4 speed, right side shift transmission with a kick starter for the bike. I also put in new clutch and pressure plates. Installing a brand new extended main shaft in the tranny allowed me to use a factory Royal Enfield Diesel inner primary case. This made it possible to use the stock Royal Enfield primary side cover on the left side of the bike. I mention these details to demonstrate the detail which I put into this bike in order to keep it looking like a stock motorcycle. Mounting the diesel engine onto the bike required the addition of a subframe which I purchased which was made specifically for this conversion. I had the subframe professionally tig welded onto the bike and it really looks great. As the pictures demonstrate, this diesel engine looks like it belongs on this bike. Similar conversions can be seen on dieselbike.net. The bike has both kick and electric start. All of the lights, turn signals, brakes, etc... work great. I even installed a new injector pump with an electric fuel shut off so that when you hit the kill switch the bike shuts off (sounds like a no-brainer but these small diesel engines usually come with manual fuel shut offs which work great on a tractor or other piece of equipment but on a motorcycle it’s necessary to be able to shut the engine off without taking your hands off of the handle bars) The paint is in very good condition. There is one small paint chip on the side of the tank . The bike has a clear title. I have all of the receipts from all of the parts I bought new for the bike including the engine, transmission, and various other conversion parts.
The bike starts right up and runs well. Now I can’t confirm this for sure as I have not put many miles on the bike since the conversion, but other people who have done similar conversions with the exact same set up claim to be getting 160 miles per gallon! It is only 10hp so it is definitely not a speed machine. With the current adjustment of the governor weights it tops out at 55-60mph. It isn’t in too much of a hurry on the hills either… If you’ve ever driven an early 80’s model vw rabbit with a diesel you’ll be in the ballpark of what to expect while riding this bike.
The charging system is fully functional. Here is one issue I noticed however… Being that the diesel engine has a generator rather than an alternator, it requires a bit more rpm’s than an idle to charge the battery. This isn’t much of a problem if you are either doing mostly longer rides or if you are ok kick starting this thing. I never really got the hang of the kick start technique and just usually used the electric start. I noticed that if I was idling around a lot the battery would discharge and then I would have to either put it on the battery charger or keep it revved up for a while to charge the battery back up. The headlight can be switched off during the day at which point there is almost no draw on the battery anyways. This is the only little glitch I noticed with the bike. As mentioned above, if the rider is able to kick start this beast then there is no need to do much about it.

Round 2. If memory serves, the last round ended at something approaching $3500 without the reserve being met.

I think its a fair price, it surely costs more to build it yourself.
The battery electric power consumption is caused by the fuel valve solenoid ON current of 3 amps and perhaps a weak L100 clone generator/rectifier,
