- The Primary Belt drive give a smooth drive even at low rpm
1980 Honda Superdream 400cc fitted with a 400cc Yanmar clone engine . The engine has done 2000 miles from new and starts instantly even in minus temperatures. oil consumption is negligible . It is f itted with a 4 speed Villiers gearbox and dry multiplate clutch.
Riding it is similar to riding a large British single cylinder bike of the 1960 but more reliable ! Huge amount of torque and pulls like a tractor with a tiny power band . The engine will pull cleanly from idle to max rpm .
It is geared for 60mph but is happier at around 55 mph , passengers seem not to have much effect.
Fuel consumption the best ever was 170mpg and worst 120mpg
The bike has performed fault free and has no known problems.
Generally the mechanical aspect of the bike is outstanding , the paint work on the tin work is very good with minor scratches and chips here and there. The frame paint work reflects the age of the bike .
New parts fitted include , overhauled gearbox, new primary drive , rear sprocket and chain , rear shocks, battery, engine , fuel filter system , starter motor and generator, battery
Both Electric and kick start options
12 months MOT , it has been recently serviced including oil and filters. New rear tyre fitted . The old one is included and has about 2000 miles left on it .
Comes with new spare primary drive belts, fuel filter . All engine parts are readily available from direct equipment sales company and are reasonably priced
Overall a well turned out work horse that is totally reliable and ready for work .
Sad points
Frame paint work is beginning to shows its age in. On starting the engine does sound a bit like combine harvester. The idle stop was incorrectly designed and so the idle some times falters I solve this by adjusting the cable it's self This minor point has always annoyed me !
The total mileage showing on the speedo is 43,800 but the engine and box have only done 2000 miles
If you like plodding alone firing every other lamppost and don't need blinding acceleration / top speed than this could be the machine for you!
