50mpg, not what I was expecting....

But a real exercise of engineering.

So the Neander bike is finally here :D Like early diesel bikes before, it's just a rolling test bed for the engine. It's more about publicity for that power plant than trying to do something for this kind of motorcycling isn't it :?:

Hi Guy's

Well I have to say I won't be rushing to purchase one! Surely you must be able to manufacture a motorcycle cheaper? CNC equipment makes life much easier, as well as advancements in technology with metallurgy etc.

The pro's! The technology is interesting and previous personal research seems to point to a powerful and reliable power plant from what "they claim". Styling is sleek looking to - a little bit of classic cruiser with a modern touch.

The con's! To make lot's of power requires more fuel, sort of a negative to those wanting economy. My "rough" calculations points to 3.8 ltr's to 80 kms in the metric scale, then again I could be adding it up wrong. The Enfield will consume 1.6 - 2.2 ltr's to the 100 km's as a bench mark.

I know I'll probably be criticized for some of the above - but realistically who could afford a motorcycle with such a price tag.

A price of $20,000 would see bikes sell "I'm not saying this particular cycle should have this pricing" anymore and the select few will purchase. It could be different for other parts of the world, but where I live, this would be the case.

Cheers

Well at least the pistons won't rock back and forth
Like someone posted under the artical, maybe Jay Leno will buy one???
For $25,000 they could have put a VW TDI engine in and gotten better performance (IMHO). It is a neat engine concept, but why 4 valves per cylinder? When turning 4,200 rpm, you can get away with 2 less valves, cams in the case, a gear driven balance shaft, pushrods and other normal goodies.
I do like parallel twins, but for 50mpg, you can buy a Triumph Bonne and get the same mileage for a lot less $$$

I went to Hamm with new bike + better half in back of Merc Vito. Not quite so hardy as Stuart or Dave. Vito + bike =2ton, 550 miles 1 tank of fuel = 42mpg. So 50 mpg dont do a thing for me. The bike will make a lot of publicity but will probably be as popular as a Morbidelli V8, this had a high price tag but it included air frieght back to Switzerland for its services. There again Triumph brought out the rocket 3 and they are selling but not many people are purchaseing the optional extra of a three furrow plough that should go behind.

I have a suspicion that as soon as there is any wear in those gears which rotate in synch with the engine so teh same 3 or 4 teeth take all the load every turn. will actually induce piston rock.
