For Sale - Dnepr-Reliant, Manchester UK

Post by mark_in_manchester »

1981 Dnepr with Reliant 850cc 4cyl PETROL engine. Complete and running, though rather rough. Has a 1981 (W reg) log book, on which it is still standard.

This is a project I should have passed up, and didn't - too much going on, family commitments, lack of space yaddah yaddah. Looks crap, but the only thing too rusty to use is one of the wheel rims (! - has a hole in it). Might want a set of bearings in the (4 speed plus reverse) gearbox but these are cheap std metric types. Carb runs rich and leaks fuel, will need a new battery, tyres are for moving it around the yard only (though I _think_ the tubes may be new - can't remember, this has hung around a while). Burns a little oil on start up - rings or valve guides?

Good things:

Frame streched and welded to a high standard to take 4 cyl engine lengthwise. Swap Reliant for something oilier? I have a Ural-Daihatsu which works very well, but wife / family will kick me out if attempt to make another.
Forks are OK, for a Dnepr - or swap for BMW twin disk front end?
One new set of brake shoes.
Solo ratio bevel box (3.8:1, not sidecar 4.6:1...you don't want to pull 3 men plus guns and a lot of ammunition off-road, do you?)
Has 1981 log book - so legal in UK to fit RH chair. Make something with sidecar wheel drive, if you can find the remains of an MT16 or later Ural effort?
Could be used (ironically, I guess) with a reliant back axle as a trike - a whole lot more elegant that putting a bike front end on a 3 wheeler.
Electric start - so much easier with LH sidecar than Russian kickstart, which is on the left and comes out at 90deg. This last fact is almost enough to make me want to keep it to pull my decrepid Busmar 'egg'.

So it's complete, but will need 'some work'. I think if someone came and offered £300 for it I would give up on attaching it to anything else around here and let it go. Less, and I might keep it or list on ebay and see what happens. No photos as yet, but I'll get around to it if there is any interest.

Location - central Manchester, NW England.

cheers

Folks -

A wee plug, to say this bike starts a 1 week auction tomorrow night on the normal website...in case you're interested. Even if only in the sense of a morbid, vicarious fascination...

cheers
