Hi.
I am looking into building a car engined bike, using cit/pug 1.5 engine. I am unsure of which would be the best donor bike to use and still scratching my head about hooking up a transmission system. Looking for a simple (read cheap and nasty!) system preferably without using the car box, though i am not ruling anything out as yet. Been inspired by lots of bikes on here especially Haydens car engined survival/rats and would appreciate any info on how the transmissions were done on his bikes, if any body can help! Really like the pug/guzzi but seems to be hard to find a convert guzzi, (as seen on this forum).....
Any suggestions and advice would really be appreciated, hope to get started as soon as definate plans are in place, in fact i am itchin to get started now..!
thanks!

Hi Daymo
All TONTI frames can be used , like the 850 T3 and many more.
The HYDRO rear bevel drive has a smaller ratio 3.788 , the more common 850 T3 is 4.125.
Top speed ( max. engine rpm )is 178 km/h with the HYDRO and 163 with the 850T3 final drive

Nanko,
Thanks for the reply.
Ive been into bikes for a while but know nothing about Guzzis so I will do more research into the models with Tonti frames, hopefully that will give me a wider range of bikes to choose from.
Really like your bike and its been an inspiratation, hope to go down the same route and steal a few ideas from you!
Its not for sale is it!!
Cheers

Hi,
I spent Tuesday re-newing the cam belt and head gasket on my little Pug 106 (see pics - end chamber leaking into water jacket) I have the 1360cc diesel version which is supposed to be the slower of the two. But not after I got at mine, lol. I've seen one in a bike at Hamm I think, but think I'll leave mine in the car for a while yet

I 've got most , if not all info from the Dutch moto guzzi club forum , just posted your frame question on this forum
I will post the result here.
There was also an exel sheet with all gearbox and final drive ratio's , but someway it got lost , I've asked for another copy .
I may need your e-mail adr. , its a large file.

38 versus 42 KW , dont think you would notice the difference in a bike.
And ofcourse playing with the timing and injection volume increases the ouput quite a lot
The head gasked seems to be a weak point in the TUD3 , its iron block TUD5 brother is a lot better.
An explanation could be that with the temperature the alu block expands ~two times more than the iron liners , as a result the mechanical pressure on the headgasket decreases with the engine temperature

Thats interesting to know Nanko. This is the 2nd time I've had to do the head gasket. Once at 95,000 miles and now at 137,000. I'll keep it a while yet then treat myself to a Golf I thinkNanko wrote:Stuart wrote:Hi,

Dont give up too early with peugeot , at least here in the netherlands they give better value for money than a VW GOLF
Ofcourse find a 106 with an iron block , I believe they switched in '94

Ok Nanko, will keep that in mind. My car is 93/94 so maybe I just missed out? Yes Peugeot are popular cars and cheaper than Golfs but I can't keep driving about in the 106 forever, nice though it is.
The Diesel Golf is holding its price very well on the secondhand market which is an indication of its popularity. Good acceleration and MPG figures
