Sensationalism or genuinely concerning?

We should take this VERY seriously!!!!

The EU is trying to ensure that manufacturers' figures for emisions etc remain accurate for the life of the vehicle...

This means that ANY interference with the drivetrain would be banned... It would be prohibited to change ANYTHING from the throttle cable to the rear tyre....

This is just the tip of the iceberg... ABS mandatory on new mopeds, anyone? GPS based speed control?

They'll be trying it on cars next.....

Sweden wants to ban motorcycles altogether as part of its "Zero Road Deaths" aims....

Stand up for your rights...turn out and show the government that we wont take these measures lying down!

My understanding is -

- No more changing the sprockets for higher speed/more acceleration
- No more power commanders or tuning boxes or similar
- No more K&N replaceable air filters
- No reboring, high lift cams, skimming heads, porting valves etc.
- Catalytic converters, fuel injection and particulate filters (for diesel) meaning more weight, complexity and of course cost
- ABS
- Testing of all the above and random (petty jobsworth?) roadside checks

On a positive note the aim seems to be to force manufacturers to offer up fault codes and diagnostic tools/manuals etc although in practice thats all the tinkering will be limited to. Everything else would be locked down to control emissions etc although the car industry has shown there are plenty of talented people out there who get round these things. Of course they have realised that and hence seem to want to be able to ban the sale of such things.

Not sure what to make of it myself. Not against ABS or lower emissions in principle but in reality it seems a step away from encouraging custom bikes like ours and more red tape and hassle. Todays modders and custom bike builders are tomorrows engineers and inventors.

Looks like the 'dead hand' again of grey Euro politicians in their even greyer suits coming up with more lunatic ideas/legislation!
I seem to remember some ridiculous EU legislation in the dim and distant past, about compulsory motorbike leg protectors in the 1980's, but luckily due to protests by various European motorbike pressure groups, all converging on Brussels and causing it to come to a standstill; the proposals got put in the 'rubbish bin' of EU legislation.
Let's hope similar happens again! Anyway, the EU is going bust, and has more important things to consider, such as the survival of the Euro, and the grand European superstate project that is rapidly crumbling away, with countries going technically bankrupt as well.
