Colins Taurus style 325cc Greaves build

Post by Stuart »

Colin's Taurus build.

Just had a call from Colin who's managed to acquire a 325 cc Greaves engine along with (what looks like) an Enfield gearbox. I say looks like because it has no 1-4 stamped on the side. Maybe an old box?

He is now on the lookout for a cheap Bullet which will receive this engine but is asking a couple of questions.

1: Do any templates exist for engine/gearbox mounting brackets?

2: Will he need to used an extended shaft on his gearbox?

Colin doesn't get much time for forums and so I'm asking on his behalf and will forward any answers or bracket templates onto him. He's going to try and make the rally too. Any help would be much appreciated I'm sure :D

I have not found build plans except for the drawings by Altmann, which are pretty basic. Also my build uses stock gearbox. Balance is not an issue.

Ok cheers. I know some guys in Germany have converted Taurus models to Hatz? Maybe I will ask there to see if any brakets are spare :D

If you are going to request German guys for brackets, you may require to buy Taurus axles after all, since rumor has it TueV dictates centre of gravity of the bike to coincide with the North-South line. I have never been able to substantiate this information.

Looks like we maybe lucky enough to get front bracket(s?) from Jocken come UK rally time but rear are destroyed when bike is converted to Hatz. Colin tells me even a cardboard template of rear/gearbox brackets would be a big help...
