New member ride....

Post by desert diesel »

Hello everyone, My names Dennis and I am currently assigned to a job in Taji Iraq. I have a project I would like for everyone to see. It is a diesel powered cafe racer. My buddy Jason and I pulled the frame from a scrap yard and all of the aluminum parts on the bike I machined myself. The wheels, tires and tank were purchased on ebay because I couldnt find any around here, considering I am in a war zone....hahaha. The bike has been completely modified from the 10 inch stretch of the frame to the trick rear suspension. Just wanted to get some reaction from folks on what they think of it.

I hope ya'll enjoy it.
This is what I started with.

Great looking build Desert Diesel. Has a real minimalist look to it verging on the skeletal even. You don't wanna be hauling much iron-work around when you're after good balance between economy and speed.
You did well considering where you are and the availability of parts! Plenty of oil out there to run it on, lol. Only heard of one other diesel bike constructed in that country and it lasted 2 minutes as the troops said then chosen engine wasn't good enough. Theirs was a very basic scoot.
Well done and thanks for sharing it! :D

Ps. If you see any marines on Diesel KLR's do let us know

Yes excellent job desert diesel and welcome to the forum.

The bike has turned out remarkably well, like Stuart said, the lack of availability of parts would make it a challlange, let us know how the bike goes with the turbo, I'm still tossing up whether or not to put the turbo on the Enfield as I had the thought of the bottom end blowing out of it.

Andrewaust.....the turbo has definately gave the engine amazing throttle response from the boost. I wasnt to worried about blowing out the bottom end because the turbo came off a 4 cylinder engine and I have only 1. So the exhaust isnt spinning the turbo as fast as it would with a larger engine. Thanks alot for your comment on the bike, I am just as pleased to how well it turned out. Good luck with the Enfield.

Thank you for the reply desert diesel, makes me feel more confident a turbo and intercooler "which I have here" should be placed on the old girl and given a go :).

Going to try and convert it in such a way it's easy to convert back to standard "only for rego" ;)

Cheers mate
