engine related but not really bike related
a couple years back i bought my 10hp yanclone from carroll stream on ebay. i got it at what was then a fair price the shipping was reasonable and it's been a good motor. i recently came across an outboard motor with a bad powerhead for 10 bucks. i snatched it with visions of driving it through a rig...

Re: CVT; does it have potential differential characteristics?
i don't think so. i think the cvt will try to straighten it out all the time. like having a spool in the front axle of your jeep. even if that isn't the case it will be VERY squirrelly on slick pavement. i had a lunchbox locker in the front of my jeep and after trashing a rear driveshaft had to driv...

i hear you. such a box would work. finding one would be difficult.
i am excited about the idea of the ibc cvt that does .46:1 overdrive. that would do the trick for a dnepr shaft-drive. or pretty much any other shaft drive from cx500 to goldwing.

swapping fwd to rwd tranny's seldom goes as smoothly as you hoped.
have you considered trike with engine and fwd transaxle in rear. like a trivette.

I take it the ride ended after 18 miles because you ran out of fuel  nah we got where we were going. and that sled is set up with a ten gallon tank. which gives it about a 150 mile range. sort of the opposite of what we are trying to achieve here. but it does show how versatile a cvt can be. y...

Then get a broken down harley (cannot be rare)and rebuild it with a diesel.. they definitely are common, but not cheap. it is a very easy swap comparatively. but i am excited about the cvt to a shaftie. around here it is not uncommon to find 1980's goldwings with engines damaged through operator he...

I think an answers is that an ural; engine is turning clockwise. ibc's may have more overdrive available. my setup had no overdrive. so i adjusted with a weird choice of jackshaft and wheel sprockets gives me a final drive around 2.2:1. I borrowed my uncles 'wing tonight. at 60 mph(just under 100kph) in 6th gear i was pulling 3400 rpms. i don't know if 6th is ov...

Re: CVT and crank
Still, I wonder. The CX500 does 160kph at 9000rpm. Your average diesel will do 3600. Even if you overrev it to 4000rpm, you're stuck with 71kph. Yet Heiko claims 100kph I think. How does that work? Even 0.9 CVT overdrive capability isn't enough. ibc's may have more overdrive available. my setup had...

arnaud, tension on the belt varies, but seems no more than a chain primary would be. engine shaft bearings should have no trouble. the axle for the driven (we call it a jackshaft but axle might be more accurate) can use whatever bearings are appropriate. i am using a set of self aligning sealed unit...

coach, you are making it too hard. the driven will be whatever size you can get for whatever price. my comet 40 driven used a 3/4" keyed shaft. it was also available in 1" the 3/4 was cheapest on ebay and matched the extra bearings i had leftover from a rebuild on the baler. woohoo. sprock...

depends. some use pucks and springs some use weighted rollers and springs on the drive pulley. the clutching comes from the conical pulley surfaces spreading out till there is no friction left to move the belt. the driven usually just has springs to adjust. but there may be exceptions. if you've don...

BTW Scooters I believe have one of the CVT pully on the rear wheel. The double conical CVT have been set up to use with Chains. this is a fairly popular concept with rock buggies. typically they will grab a honda or similar fourcylinder fwd engine/transaxle figure out some flange from axle shaft to pinion of some beefy off road axles, weld the diff, and then build tube around it. I have eyed such buggies for some time and th...

On the subject of right angle gears, as energy can neither be created or destroyed, if you were looseing 11% it would be running very hot or be extreamly noisy. If a truck of 500bhp were loosing 11% in the back axel you wouldnt need to salt the roads it would melt the snow. that's because properly ...

comet 94's are used on occasion in racing sleds. i'm fairly certain you don't have snowmobile performance shops in the big easy. they have the same relationship to sleds that speed shops do to cars. the dealer hopes you never find them. but most do have a pretty good stock of bits and pieces. i got ...
