Sorry mate. Im in the same boat. Spent a while trawling about the net but couldnt nail the dates. Likewise, I will be stuffed for booking annual leave if we dont get a confirmation soon. Not that you will want to ride with me this year anyway  You will quite literally be looking down at me

I got a reasonable amount of engine braking from a twin diesel. Probably not as much as say a high compression single cylinder petrol, but certainly as much as say an inline triple or four cylinder petrol. You get engine braking with CVT, until the revs fall to the point where the clutch disengages....

Sphere, We are all on the 'right path'. Balboa has set his final drive ratio correctly for the CVT unit he is using. Any higher ratio and he has found that his belt will slip on take off and going up hills. Jeremy is setting his final drive ratio on the advice of his supplier and it should be hopefu...

Hi Timppax, If I find time later I'll scan a drawing or take some pictures but heres a starter to get you going. Take a look through the arcives here. Im sure somebody has put up pictures of their solution. Also on one of the Yahoo groups for Diesel bikes there are some shots of somebody elses answe...

Hi Timppax, Could you explain your problem with the govenor a little clearer. From the brief description Im unsure if it is as it should be or you have a problem. The throw of the lever is only very small, 10 or 12mm. Remember the engine is only really designed to have 3 speeds, stop, idle and flat ...

Geoff, Im hoping someone else can help out here as my rusty memory fails me. There was a guy who attended both the British and German Rally this year. He has completed some pretty big Overland trips, Russia and Mongolia if I recall correctly, on a converted Mz in Trail Bike mode with a 10hp Lombardi...

Guys, Thanks to all for thoughts/suggestions on rubber mounting. Its taken a while, but true to his word the supplier has sourced a replacement used engine, so things can start moving again. Im now pretty certain that the engine has a weak point in the cases that the factory were aware off. On the o...

Heiko, Iam jealous as a jealous thing. On the way back from Hamm myself and Dave were dreaming of Adventure Bike conversions and got to thinking along similar lines, inspired by the Lombardini engines yourself and others had used. I was thinking about the large parrellel twin Yamaha Super Tenere as a...

Hi mate, This is one of those odd things thats both very simple but very difficult to get your head around. I admit that its only relativley recently when I had the misfortune of having to strip a unit, that it became properly clear to me, when I could actually see all the workings. However t...

TFC Glad your engine appears OK. Its certainly a thought regarding the CVT and worth some consideration. I wouldnt have thought that the forces involved on a diesel bike would have been significantly worse with CVT that a trad set up though. Im basing this on the low HP and low rpm compared to a sno...

Guys, Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Taildraggin, Thanks for the link for rubber mounts. I had a good trawl around the site. A very handy rescource indeed. Also thanks for the idea regarding rigid mounting one end and rubber mounting the rest. On the one hand I have concerns about fatique i...

OK, Punsun stripped and all is not well inside, excuse the poor photography but it gives you an idea. First up, there is no thrust washer between the side casing main bearing and the crank. This means that the cog that drives the cams has picked up on both the bearing face (okish) and the ali case (...

Nice one Dave, glad you got it sorted. Just to add to the back from Hamm tales of woe. I recieved a letter today from Thames Valley Police. Ian, Its my understanding that the Punsun is a rip of the Yanmar but I couldnt confirm that they are identical. Worth keeping an eye out though. Smokey/Pietenpol Seems to me that it would be necessary to ensure the crank and jackshaft maintain the same relationship. I think it would massivley accele...

Graham, Im sure it wasnt your intention but non the less I feel a little insulted. Where from my posts over the last couple of years did you get the impression that I treated my engine like a Honda? Or for that matter that Beckendorf the German builder that has had 3 Punsun cranks fail, is lacking i...

Fred, Its tricky to photograph the engine mounts and cracks in the casing with the engine in the bike. I need to wait for assistance before dropping the engine. I did my back in whilst man handling a jap four engine some time ago and am not keen to repeat the experience. There is a photo of the head...

Punsun Kaput!!!

Just got back from the Hamm Rally courtesy of a recovery lorry. One minor problem on the way over when an injection pipe fractured at th...

Welcome to the forum mate. Sorry no experience with your engine but heres some general thoughts. I think you are going to have some transmission issues with a target top speed of 65mph and some off road capability. 65mph is right on the limit of what the hp will achieve anyway also with only 3200rpm...

Shere, Like yourself I was inspired by the simplicity of the Enfield conversions but I wanted to go 20hp. If you want a really simple conversion, you probably cannot find an easier bike than a Harley. Without repeating my whole build, all it entails is making 2 engine mounts that bolt directly to th...
