I started work on the DY35 engine last night. It didn't come with a fuel tank or fuel filter assembly.
I removed the giant aluminium pulley and fitted a spare new tank I got with the Robin parts.
I then decided to drain the oil and found a large plate attached to the crank case bolts holding the filter/plug in. Once removed it became clear this was fitted because the M6 Drain Cover fixing bolt had sheared in the crank case at some time! This will be an easy fix with a bit of careful drilling and a helicoil at worst.
Removing the drain plate was a bit of an anti climax! Nothing came out. A thick gunge dripped from the hole like a constipated dog! I left it to drain overnight.
Thr Robin Fuel filter/tap assy has what apprears to be an in, an out and a return (breather?) back to the tank. The cheap Chinese filter/tap assemblies on e bay do not appear to have a return. Is this needed, or can I 'T' off the outlet to provide the return?
I will probably check it starts by robbing a fuel filter from one of the other engines but will eventually neeed to get a replacement. Now that I've got 3 Robin Engines, I feel obliged to get them all running!
Just T it off in to the existing breathers in the tank.
I actually just left a small length of breather tube on the filter and blocked it off with a hex bolt.
When you initially bleed the system the bolt had to be removed to allow the air out of the bowl but was ok once done.
Only Robins and the Peugeot 106 TUD5 also fitted to Saxo and Rover 115(Metro) lol
Plenty of skinned knuckles from the rover !!
Err do you want another DY41B pressure wash with electric start?? lol
