Compensator Sprocket for smoother power transfer????
In working on an old Harley that I'm fixing up, an idea came to mind. Harley uses a "compensator sprocket" for the engine primary sprocket, it uses a male/female ramp affair and a very heavy spring to even out the power pulses from the uneven firing Harley (power stroke every 415 degrees if I'm right?) I was wondering if this would be of use on a Diesel. There are probably plenty of these lying around with everyone converting to belt primaries, etc. Just a thought....... Anyone ever heard of one used on a Diesel bike?

I have one lying in the garage here if anyone wants I can send to you for cost of postage only. You might need a harley crankshaft to cut up and adapt for a stub shaft though?

For a stub shaft maybe someone in a Harley shop has kept a wiped out drive-side shaft, they are tapered on the inside with a key (goes into flywheel disk) and held with a nut I believe. Would be an easy job to turn the inside part to whatever you'd need or make a flange to fit on it to bolt to flywheel, etc.
It looks like it would be worth a try, if a Harley engine doesn't beat the snot out of it it should last with a Diesel!

Very common on early Brit singles, replaced later by cush drive centres in the clutch (rubber buffers).
I have the clutch in the Enfield - works well.

It seems a common thing to replace the compensator in Harleys with a solid sprocket, if it works as intended then why I don't know! I used to ride an old BSA 500 single, it used to nastily snatch the primary and clutch when taking off! Someday I'd like to try a compensator, doesn't seem like it would hurt.........
