Taking a bit of a straw poll here...
My Yanclone Enfield had its governor spring set on the inner holes both on the regulator and governor arms. I didn't think I was likely to be getting the best performance out of it as a result and so have decided to move them out a hole or two. I should receive a prize for having got the bloody spring off without taking the engine off the bike - but hence why I'd like to get it right first go putting it back in again.
The Yanmar technical manual recommends for 3600rpm using the second hole out on the regulator arm, and the middle hole on the governor. Interestingly the clones have four holes on the governor rather than three.
Taking O as the "axle" of both arms and the numbers/letters as the holes i.e.
--1--2--3--4--O (regulator/throttle arm)
and
--a--b--c--d--O (governor arm)
What do you all have yours set to? Anyone experimented with the different settings? I think I'm going to go for 2b but happy to be swayed by popular opinion.

It is not in the arrival brightly planned. But in the Dreams Men Dream along the way we find the Golden road to Samarkand.
Hi Bob. In fairness I have done 250 miles on the bike but am still taking it easy - it's just so utterly gutless though and I'm hoping this will perk it up a bit. I had a day at home today and managed to get the springs on exactly where I wanted them - no mean feat I can tell you. I was even more pleased when I found out my front wheel drum had been skimmed so collected the front wheel. I thought I'd be out for a ride this evening but... no... I cannot get the front wheel back on the bike for love nor money. Gard Auto took the bearings out and put them back in again for me but I'm guessing they can't be in properly as this wheel is not going on as it currently stands. I've dropped Dave a note asking how he does his bearings and hoping the promise of a beer will result in some assistance! I'm going to make the Southend brekkie if it bloody well kills me...
I know Rosie's cafe (though have never been in) - are you sure you want to be in there this weekend? V is on - it'll be mental! Sadly I'm away this weekend (see previous comment re V) so no can do (but do let me know next time)

Dan,
I drove myself nuts on this one too. I fully understand the theory but couldnt quite get it into my mind which combination of holes created the greatest tension.
Eventually I gave up and set mine up using a tacho.
Im away for a week or so but if you pm me your address and you havnt got it sussed when I get back, I could post it over and you could have a borrow for a week or two.
Cheers, Mark

Mark - many thanks for the offer. Dave is only up the road from me and has also offered so I'll pop round his one evening. Front wheel now back on after local Enfield dealer (John Parker in Southend - excellent) put in new bearings and put the axle in the CORRECT way round
All I need to do now is set max revs with a tacho and I'm away!
If I don't see you before and the bike doesn't kill me through stress in the meantime I'm sure I'll be meeting you at the Bat & Ball next year

Hi Dan - Try 1-A on the governor arms, just check to see if you get over-fueling "heaps of black smoke on acceleration" if so adjust the governor lever stop bolt inwards. My clone was adjusted way to rich, backed it off and its sweet
, top speed with 17 tooth sprocket is just over 100Khr = 65mph. While running in keep speed to a max of 90Khr - 55mph.
Over-fueling will kill the engine!
Cheers
