13 hp yanclone lacks power
Dear folks, since a few months i have a 13hp- with new stronger, i hope- crankshaft in my enfield.
the torque is very nice, but it seems to lack power in 4th gear.
data'
-the bike is not overgeard.. 19th sprocket
- i have the governer spring in the outer holes
- i set back the fuel adjustment screw and the engine smokes ( a lot) when full throttle.
-In lower gears, it has no trouble revving up all the way, in 4th gear, power is gone from 85km/h
- gearbox and wheels don't drag.
what to do? install a stronger governer spring, or set in other holes?
Help!

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Do you get any black smoke when you are hitting this limit?
Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Yes, and i adjusted the main fuel screw some more to be sure.. birds are dropping dead behind me..

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
I have a Yanclone which should have 16 HP and 558 ccm. I checked the stroke (took out the Injector), it is 75 mm. And the bore to make it 558 ccm woud not fit between the studs. I think in China the cc's are a bit schmaller and because the people are smaller the use small horses. I had the Engine in a boat and acording to the Prop and RPM i thinkt it has around 11 real horses.
My question: Are you sure your engine has 13 HP? I mean, real grown up britsch horses?
Alex

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
My original yanclone (406cc) used to stop at exactly that speed 52/53 mph or so.
I wonder if you actually do have a 400cc lump?

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Well, before i had the 418/10hp engine, it performed better in higher rpm's then this 13 hp engine..
but i must say, power in mid-range section is very good, much better then the 10 hp version.

You may want to check the injection timing, it sounds like it should be advanced very slighlty

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
My 9.5hp 416cc Kubota has no trouble getting me up to 55mph. I could get to 60mph if the CVT didn't upshift too soon.
Direct injection engines just don't have the high-rpm power of IDI engines. Torque is the other way around.

The timing is good, i already checked..it also hammers a lot! sounds almost like not-healthy..(when it should be a petrol engine)alexanderfoti wrote:You may want to check the injection timing, it sounds like it should be advanced very slighlty

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Well, it it still very lazy.. i have the 19T gearbox sprocket, and it will only go to 100km/h when there's no wind, no matter how soft- ahead.
I looked at the manual, it says 12-14 degrees BTDC it should inject.
At the flywheel are markings but not how many degrees they are.
Besides, whe you turn the flywheel you only see a tiny - bulb' at the fuel pump when it injects, so it is very, very hard to see exactly at what moment it delivers...
I already made holes in the airfilter box, engine smokes a lot..
what should i do? try whithout air filter?
What could be wrong with this chinese peice of eh, imitation?

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
100km/h is about 62mph.
I could never get 62mph out of mine on the flat, maybe 56 with no headwind, but mine was a 406, so it seems about right with your setup.

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
It won't come close to 3600 rpm at 100km/h(on the india odo that is..)
I'm thinking of installing the 10hp back in.. this one would rev-up..

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
I am hesitant to pull out the injector because of the gasket it's sitting in, but i remember i have a spare one..
Then it shows good what it does?
Timing too late would be an explanation for this, but it is hammering quite loudly..
Ik will measue the circumference, divide with 360 and place the markings..
But oh, i just realize, Whithout removing the injector i cannot pinpoint TDC..
Hmm makes me think of my dnepr mt11, had the same issue with flywheel markings..

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Thats what i mean, i do have to remove the injector.. but do not have a spare gasket for the injector, and i remember getting this small part(or other yanclone parts) is very difficult.boutje wrote:Yes you can.
Stik a M3 threadrod through the hole.
And than you can exactly locate the T.C.D.
Last time i removed the injector, half of the gasket was sticking to the nozzle..
Had te remove the head, clean the injector seat out, and after 3 weeks or so i managed to get a new gasket.
Thats why i'm hesitant to remove it..

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Is your gasket copper or paper?
Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
I really don't know, i cannot see form the outside..
The last one(other engine) was indeed paper-like stuff..
I've been told there are stroboscoop-thingy's for diesel engines..
They pick up the puls form the fuel line..

"Only 100km/h"? You have only 13hp. 100km/h is pretty damn good!arnaud wrote:it will only go to 100km/h
My 9.5hp will "only" get me up to 85km/h.
You're troubleshooting a problem that doesn't exist. Enjoy your bike.

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
100km/h was possible with the 10 hp yanclone,
so why wouldn't it with the 13 hp engine with one teethe more?
Other people with the same set-up also go 100/110km/h

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
The issue here is you are assuming that as the engine size is larger the power output will be increased. The quality of Chinese clone engines seems to be getting better but there are still significant variances in tolerances across all major components. From everything you've described your engine sounds like it is running fine but is simply not putting out the 13hp it is advertised as having - and probably not capable of doing so. I'd take a guess the power of the new engine is no higher than the old one but perhaps with a little more torque midrange.
The only way you'd ever be able to truly tell in this situation (and perform adjustments to the injector timing and fuel volume) would be to have the bike on a dyno.
If you want more power and speed how about converting to a 2 cylinder Kubota? They seem to match the Enfield frame nicely and give just that little bit more power that makes the bike more usable...

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Dan, you might be right.
The kubota's are neat engines, but hard to get over here, and will require an total other subframe, and since it is a 2 cylinder, would have to get new papers for the bike- which can be a lot of trouble where i live..

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
To get new papers when you put an other engine in the bike is no problem at all in the netherlands.arnaud wrote:Dan, you might be right.

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Well, then we have different experiences..
I am considering installing the 10 hp engine back in the enfield, and be able to cruise 100km/g again..

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
Don 8 bikes in the last 2 years and no problems at all.(2 of them converted to diesel)
You should keep in mind that you are not insured when your bike is converted to diesel and not registered agian with the rdw.

Re: 13 hp yanclone lacks power
That's correct, What's in the bikes papers has to comply with the bike.
Most papers state the kind of fuel ( B or D)
Exept for the bike of a mate of mine, where nothing is stated about fuel.. Lucky him..

What is the point of the EU when different countries in the EU all have very different ways of interpreting the rules?

You answered your own question.arnaud wrote:so why wouldn't it with the 13 hp engine with one teethe more?
You offset the extra power by reducing the leverage the engine has to turn the wheel.
