Variable fuel pump

for al that were interested. I fitted my new fuel pump today, same as before.

Idle around 1500 or so , maybe a tad less 1250. Not sure what this variable stuff is about, becuase it seems to rev to the redline in exactly the same way as the pump I had before. It has yamamoto laser etched into it, other than it looks identical to the other one.

If anybody wants it, as I now had 2 identical pumps, let me know

Did you connect your throttle cable at the stop lever ?
If so it wont work,a diesel engine needs a governor all the time.

No, its connected to a rod, which is then connected via a big spring to the governer, that setup has worked fine for 500+ miles, but the idle was always a bit higher than id liked.

I had seen that some people have had better luck with an idle by changing the fuel pump, but I wonder if my idle is pretty good compared to others?

Did you try without the spring between cable and governor ?
I dont see why you need a spring there.
In fact you have two springs in series(one from the governor)the force on the governor shaft depends on the rpm so there might be some interaction between both springs.
Is it just impossible to set the idle on a lower value or does the enine stall ?

If I remove the spring and replace it with a shaft, I may as well connect it straight to the governer no?

When you set the idle lower, lets say 1000 rpm, it slows down slowly until it eventually stalls, the minimum speed so that it doesnt slow down is about 1250 rpm.

Its not the end of the world that I Cant get a slow idle

yes.

Or try without throttle cable and operate the governor lever by hand.
If that gives you a stable idle speed the spring has to be removed.

I will give it a go. I'm sure other people have tried this without success ?
