Interesting stuff.
Will add the important detail once they add the feature of uploading PDF's to this site.
Had heard that most of Elsbett's advancements in the area of engine design were actually in designing new piston that gave greater efficiency at combustion. His injector work was a side bar.... but became the staple when his engine biz did not prosper.
On the piston... One; a swirl chamber is added to the top of the piston. Up till this time this had not been done. You'll find this now many diesels... especially DI ones. Most just call it a piston cup. There are similar designs out there based on the trajectory of the injected fuel. The the shape of the cup produces a more automized fuel . Two, the other little tweaks he did in piston design Im not sure if they are part of newer pistons in use these days or not but boy they make a hell a lot of sence. For example it appears he has in there a redesign of the inner/underside of piston that via this layout creates better cooling characteristics which reduces piston expansion thus allowing for tighter clearances of the piston to cylinder wall. This of course boost the amount of work each combustion can produce cause you have less blow by the rings thru out the whole cycle of cool to hot engine. (lease I think that's how it is by quickly reading the write up.) Not sure about the piston pin location redesigns. Didn't quit grasp that. Im more of a Human Engineer not a Mechanical engineer.
Again will add more info when can upload a PDF

Re: Elsbett engine
Cool stuff.
It's interesting how patents must be worded. Had I know I could have skipped the gibberish and gone right to the description I might have saved myself a little reading.
