I'm in the middle of replacing my four speed box with a five speed, and I noticed that the five speed is a lot stiffer to turn by hand in every gear.
Is it normal for the five speed to be like this?
Stiff 5 speed enfield box.

Didn't the line inspection take their eye off the ball and cause some problems with a limited number of 5 speed boxes? I remember reading something about this a few months back.
Maybe you have one of those duffers?

Re: Stiff 5 speed enfield box.
Not that it matters much at the moment, as I can't use it in my Ariel oiler after all.
The 5 speed sticks out at the front (right hand side), and the engine / fan cowl sticks out at the back in just the same spot. This means that I would have to cut away the cowl and that part of the alloy engine that it fits too. Also at the angle the box would have to be at would mean that oil would pour out of the clutch cable where it comes out of the box. What damn fool put a clutch cable there and at that angle
Well that will teach me to make sure everything will fit before spending money on sprockets and get machinists to do various jobs. Bugger!
