Re: Sunbeam S8
Was that a tongue in cheek comment about the Sunbeam Club. I had an S7 deluxe and found them lovely people and not adverse to some interesting specials. They have a brilliant old school type of Annual Rally with lots of silly fun.

Re: Sunbeam S8
I have used Liquid Moly diesel purge. This is used instead of diesel, no dilution and it restored performance and took away an awful knock I was getting. Of course when I say performance I use the term loosely.

Re: Diesel wont start
Good advice from you all. Overnight I had a thought that perhaps a stone chip had got into the starter ring teeth. I did not see it on checking but bike seems to start fine so its going back together shortly with the second battery in parallel as I know from past experience that when winter comes th...

Re: Diesel wont start
Well, I jump leaded the transit van battery direct and had the same result. Partial turn of the engine then stop. I believe that rules out connections from the battery to the starter motor. I then noticed something odd. When I tried to push the engine over in gear I had an effect like clutch drag No...

Re: Diesel wont start
Well it has not locked up as it started once.
Tomorrow I will try a battery jump leaded direct to the starter as I have not ruled out a poor earth or supply lead yet before I delve further.

Re: Diesel wont start
Thanks for the responses. The motor is turned by the starter only a part of a turn then no more. The starter motor has been exchanged. The battery is new. I did get it to start once and it ran fine and then back to no go. There is no kickstarter fitted. Is there an automatic decompressor on this mot...

Diesel wont start
My Fuji Robin engine Matchless wont start. The engine spins very briefly and then the starter can do more. I have put in a new battery and changed the starter but the symptoms remain. This engine has an automatic decompressor and I know think this device has failed and the starter is trying to work ...

Re: I've just purchased a load of Enfield Robin stuff
Forgot to say- I am very cynical of clone engines and whatever you do try and get to the Diesel rally next summer. Really good fun and some really nice people.
Thanks Stuart eversomuch for your organisation of this event.

Re: I've just purchased a load of Enfield Robin stuff
Brucey, Well done on your purchase, I did think about it for a while. I have A Dorsett Matchless diesel. Used regularly but currently in the workshop with cycle part repairs and a touch of paintwork. There were some mods to the Robin engine. The flywheel has been machined down as has the flywheel ca...

Another diesel on the Isle of Wight
Now I cannot be sure but I thought I saw a Diesel Engined Machine in a traffic queue at Lake on the Isle of Wight. I was travelling the other way and only glanced at the bike but was more taken with the amused expression of the motorcyclist travelling behind. Was it You? Tony Near Ryde Isle of Wight

Ebay item Fuji robin enfield parts
If you do a search on Robin diesel you will find an interesting item. The people who carried out Enfield conversions with the Fuji Robin engine are selling a complete package except engines and start bike to carry out conversions. The problem is the costs of the engine which I am told is now out of ...

Re: Fuji robin head leak
As a sort of update to my last post. I was still unhappy about how noisy the engine was and with reduced performance too. Taking advice and internet searches I came up with Moly slip sludge remover. Although this can be added to the fuel it works better being undiluted. I rode the bike minus the fue...

Re: Fuji robin head leak
Thank you all. I had the bike out today in the rain and it seems as if I am sorted except for a short snagging list. The nuts were free on the studs but as my engineer friend commented "are the torque settings in the manual for dry or oiled threads?" Unfortunately it doesn't say. I took ad...

Fuji robin head leak
Despite following the progressive torquing instruction in the manual I am getting problem with leakage at the cylinder head/barrel joint. There is no headgasket so unless anyone has any ideas then my only thought is to grind the joint in with some paste as per the Vincent arrangement. Before I do th...

Ernie Dorsett Matchless For Sale
I have for sale an original Ernie Dorsett Matchless. The frame is a 1968 G12 frame and it was fitted with a Fuji Robin diesel engine. This has blown up. Fortunately the modified flywheel, casing and alternator are fine. To complete the bike you will need either a replacement engine and fit the Dorse...

Matchless Robin woes
Its been awhile since I posted anything on the forum. On the last occasion I was bemoaning the demise of my Dorsett Diesel due to a broken con rod and extra crankcase ventilation. Co-incidentally there were two DY42 Fuji Robin engines for sale but Chicago was a bit too far to go! I thought I got it ...

Fuji Robin engine
Hello, Fellow diesel enthusiasts. I have had for about 5/6 years now a Fuji Robin engined Matchless by Ernie Dorsett. The bike appears in the article on the site about his machines, (the red one). Its been a good one until a fateful day recently when the conrod decided to go sideways rather than up ...
