Would it not be better to space the sprocket out a few mm to clear the bolt heads ?

Re: Converting 2-stroke gas engine to run on diesel

You will need a new cylinder head to be able to use an injector AND a glow plug plus you will probably need a supercharger to supply sufficient Air to the engine on startup ! You wont need a great deal of boost , just enough to get the engine going and to scavenge the cylinder as it runs ! You will ...

CVT designed to run at 7000 rpm max + diesel that runs 3600 max = 1<2 step up from engine to CVT !

Simples ! :D

Re: CVT design- make that diesel spin faster

If you want to "fool" the cvt into performing like it was behind a gasoline engine instead of a diesel , you are going to have to swap low end grunt for high rpm ! A diesel rated at 20 hp that will get you 45 mph can be made to do 60 mph by making the input to the cvt 1.5 rpm greater than ...

If you have the space and the skills to use them , A set of "quick change" gears for an automobile diff go for app $200 and range from 1:1 all the way to 5:1 ! more durable than a chain drive and cheaper than a shaft !

The big GMC 2 stroker marine diesels have the same full pressure oiling system as a 4 stroke ! But they also use vlvs in the head for the exhaust and a roots blower for the scavenging psi !! I would be interested to know the oiling system for this conversion !!

Re: Man with a plan (after feedback)

put the trans in front with a spool in the diff , block off the axle hole facing forward and extend the rear facing half shaft back to an industrial right angle drive ! You have choice to either turn the rear wheel directly off of the drive or a chain from the drive to the wheel !

Yeah , it would likely need a clutch at the engine for starting off and sitting at idle in traffic but once under way the cvt would be able to operate as it should !!

Re: Dual sport yanmar l100w which gearbox?

If I were to use a cvt behind a diesel I would use a 1 to 2 step up to double the cvt rpm and then a 2 to 1 step down to run the rear wheel ! Cvt will run at its optimal rpm range as would the diesel !

Or they could have made the right angle drive at the axle set up to the correct rotation of the wheel ! Some of the Russian knockoffs ran the drive shaft on the opposite side from the BMW so had to set the driven gear outboard to get the rotation right !!
